Peptide Handling Guide¶
1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)¶

2. Safe Handling Procedures¶
Do: - Work in a clean, designated laboratory area - Use sterile, low-binding plasticware - Open vials in a biosafety cabinet or clean bench - Clean work surfaces before and after use - Label all tubes with compound name, concentration, date, and batch number - Document all handling steps
Do Not: - Vortex peptide solutions (causes aggregation) - Expose to direct light (UV catalyzes oxidation) - Open vials in high-humidity environments - Use metal spatulas (may catalyze degradation) - Pipette dry powder directly (static loss)
3. Equipment Preparation¶
- Calibrate balance before weighing
- Pre-chill solvents if required by protocol
- Ensure all pipettes are calibrated (±2% accuracy)
- Use low-retention pipette tips for reconstituted solutions
- Prepare fresh buffer solutions (filter through 0.22 µm)
4. Waste Disposal¶
- Peptide-contaminated waste: Dispose as chemical waste per institutional guidelines
- Sharps (vials, needles): Use designated sharps containers
- Liquid waste: Collect and dispose through appropriate waste stream
5. Emergency Procedures¶
